Reptile Viruses... What Australian Keepers Need to Know

Virus Talk Image

Over the last 10 to 15 years the hobby of reptile keeping has exploded in popularity. More and more people are coming to realise and appreciate the enjoyment of keeping any number of the amazingly diverse range of reptiles that we have here in Australia.

Part of the responsibility of keeping these animals in captivity is having at least a basic understanding of the assorted health problems they can develop. Some of these health problems can of course be caused by viruses.

Join reptile veterinarian, Dr Shane Simpson (aka "The Reptile Doctor") for an informative evening as he explains the potential viral infections that have particular importance in Australia including repatarenavirus, ferlavirus, sunshinevirus, bornavirus and nidovirus in snakes, adenovirus and nidovirus in lizards as well as touching on some viruses of turtles and crocodiles. He will sort of the fact from the fiction and present the most up-to-date information available!

All attendees will receive an E-book after the event that covers everything in the presentation in detail.

$2 from every ticket sold will be donated to the ongoing research of reptile viruses in Australia through Dr Tim Hyndman's work at Murdoch University, Perth.
